B-boys and B-girls are awesome!

Tonight, I was watching this new show called "So you think you can dance." It was pretty interesting and it lasted for two hours, I think. Anyway, there were a lot of b-boy and b-girls that auditioned for the show! It was pretty awesome to see how many of them showed up and they were ALL excellent! The show welcomed all different types of dance; It was interesting to see all the different cultures and styles. I found the b-boys and b-girls the most interesting and I think that the judges did too because a lot of them were asked to go on to the next round.

It was great to see hip-hop on this show. It gave the b-boys and b-girls an opportunity to be on Television and also the chance to become a professional dancer. In my opinion, the b-boys showed more passion and soul than the other contestants which ranged anywhere from belly dancers to modern jazz dancers. I loved watching the b-boys because they were so fun, very talented, and they had great attitudes.

On the show, they select a few individuals here and there and show kind of like a summary of thier dance experience, where they are from, and what kind of dance they preferred. They showed a few different b-boys and all of them had the same responses which was that they enjoyed dancing, they learned on the streets, and dancing was their life. One b-boy in particular said that dancing is just him, thats what he does. He likes to show off in front of people and he likes the reactions that he gets when he shows a difficult move. His response reminded me of the attitude's that graffiti artists have. What they do is art, and it just a part of them, they do it because it means something and thats what they like to do.

I enjoyed your blog about seeing b-boys/b-girls on a dancing show. In your blog where you talk about the passion and how they learned on the streets it made me think about the association of the two. The idea that if you have to work for/at something you appreciate it more vs. it being given to you and you taking it for granted. It would make sense that it was the b-boys/b-girls that seemed to radiate passion to you because if they had to learn how to dance on the streets that means they were actively pursuing it themselves and through self discipline essentially became self-taught which requires a huge amount of work. So there's the b-boys/b-girls who learn to dance that way, then you have people whose parents stuck them in some dance school/academy where they paid for and took classes by professional dancers and everything was laid out already for them. In essence it's given to them so they may not appreciate it as much in turn leading to less passion.

These are just a random thoughts and generalizations there are always exceptions to the rule but... anyways good blog!

I also watched the new Fox network TV show, "So You Think You Can Dance" on Tuesday night. Glued to the TV for the entire two hours.

The first thing that came to mind was how much it was structured like "American Idol", which I thought was a good thing.

I agree that the show was very entertaining, however I think thatite should have just been about hip hop dancing. I just thought that it was a little unfair to be judging a hip hop routine, with a ballet or belly-dancing routine. To me it was like judging apples and oranges. Luckily for the hip hop artists, the judges appear to be progressive and love their contributions.

I love that show! IT's funny cause everywhere I see dancing, hear music, or see graffiti, I relate it back to everything we've done in class. It's funny how much more aware you become to how much of an influence hip hop has on America today.
